Getting ready for a big race? Working to improve your performance? Or just looking to take better care of yourself?

Training for a race is no joke.

The commitment to train and prepare is a serious one that while great for cardiovascular health, can be very taxing on your musculoskeletal health. Running requires that you pound hard surfaces with your skeleton for extended periods of time. These repetitive shocks run up the legs and into your hip and pelvic joints every time your feet strike the ground. The lengthened periods of exposure to these shocks can be taxing on the body and this stress is often what leads to injuries to the knees, ankles, and hips.

Common issues we see runners for:

  • Plantar fascitis
  • Achilles tendonitis
  • IT Band Syndrome
  • Knee tracking problems
  • Hip Bursitis
  • Sprains
  • Strains
  • Trauma to joints

How chiropractic can help runners:

When assessing runners, we are searching for misalignments that can cause tightness and discomfort in the back, hips, and extremities. I will work to help joints realign into a functioning position. Once an underlying issue is taken care of, your body will be more capable of functioning at new performance levels.Chiropractic can help you to:

  • Improve joint mobility
  • Prevent overuse injuries
  • Heal muscles quicker

Things you can do to improve your training and recovery

  1. Vary your running surfaces
  2. See your chiropractor
  3. Buy two of the same type of running shoes, and switch between the pairs
  4. Replace your shoes every few hundred miles
  5. Dynamic stretches (like lunges or squats) to get the blood running to the body

Just as you would fine-tune a car before a race, pre-race chiropractic adjustments can give you a winning edge!
