What is a Subluxation?
Chiropractic Adjustments target misalignments, called subluxations, that create blockages in the communication between the brain and the rest of the body. The most common analogy is a garden hose that is pinched. The flow of water from one end to the other is going to be significantly impacted until that blockage is removed. Chiropractic adjustments do the same by removing the interference to allow the body to function as intended!
What causes these subluxations?
There are a variety of causes for spinal subluxations and Chiropractors call them the three T's; Traumas, Thoughts, and Toxins. Small and large physical traumas like sleeping position, poor posture, repetitive movements, growth spurts, car accidents, birth trauma, slips and falls, and sports injuries can cause these misalignments. Emotional factors, thoughts, have also been shown to contribute to subluxations, like grief, anxiety, depression, worry, and anger. Toxins include processed foods, medications, and other not so natural and harmful things. When these toxins build up in your body this can cause inflammation, pain, and the body to not work at 100%.
What happens when the body is subluxated
Spinal misalignment: normal movement and function is altered
Nerve dysfunction: nerve irritation can occur
Soft tissue dysfunction: swelling and inflammation can occur
Muscle dysfunction: surrounding muscles can become tight, sensitive, or may begin to spasm
Other general health issues: left untreated, subluxations can lead to long-term issues like wear and tear on your spine, weakened immune system function, and compromised organ function
It's important to note that subluxations often occur before pain presents itself, making these misalignments often silent. So just because you feel ok now, doesn't mean that you don't have a misalignment that could impact your future health. Preventative health and wellness are very important!
What problems do subluxations cause?
Subluxations prevent wellness.
A vertebral subluxation is a dysfunction of the bones in your spine that compromises the normal functioning of your nerves and can influence your overall health and well-being. When 2 or more bones move out of proper alignment, they put pressure on nerves thus causing those aches, pains, and dysfunctions many people experience.Communication between the brain and organs is vital for proper function. Blocked communication between the brain and the body can result in a variety of conditions, and even disease can occur. Depending on where the misalignment is, it could potentially impact an organ or group of organs. This can lead to conditions like digestive disorders, back/neck pain, migraines, fertility issues, ear infections, and many more.
How do chiropractors clear subluxations?
Dr. Lauren is specially trained to examine you for the presence of vertebral subluxations and to correct them. After a full assessment, she will determine the best course to clear your misalignments. There are many different techniques that chiropractors might use to fix misalignments, but unlike the stigma of the past, Dr. Lauren doesn't 'pop' or 'crack' anything. At our Jacksonville office, for adults, we employ a modern, state-of-the-art technique, known as the Torque Release Technique (TRT). In this process, Dr. Lauren uses an integrator tool to safely and very gently encourage your spine to find its proper alignment. Adjustments for infants and babies are even more gentle as Dr. Lauren uses only her hands. Watch an adjustment here:
