Liz: From high risk pregnancy to smooth induction

When I found out I was pregnant with my daughter, I was so excited and happy, but also couldn’t help but feel a little overwhelmed and nervous about giving birth. I didn’t know much about what to expect, but I did know I wanted to prepare my body to give myself and my daughter the best chance at a healthy, uncomplicated birth experience. I came across Revolution when I was a little over 20 weeks pregnant and I am so glad I did! As I progressed into the second half of my pregnancy, I found that being on my feet a lot at work on top of my growing belly was causing me to have more back pain and it was affecting my sleep. I was also noticing daily headaches, and of course acid reflux. At my first appointment, we addressed these issues and completed a thermal body scan. To no surprise, there was quite a bit of stress and misalignment. With my team at Revolution we were able to target these problems with a care plan that was unique to me. In addition to helping resolve these issues, receiving chiropractic care would also help align my pelvis and increase the amount of space for my baby to grow. With each appointment I felt these problems lessen and had a very enjoyable second half of my pregnancy. Not only did I feel better, but we also kept the baby girl in a great position for delivery and fostered an environment for her to develop and grow strong.

For medical reasons, I had to be scheduled for an induction. Although I had wanted to go into labor naturally, my doctors felt it was best for the baby to be induced at 38 weeks. Before we checked into the hospital that evening to be induced, I had scheduled my appointment at Revolution to get one last adjustment and be ready for the big day! Not only did I leave aligned and prepared the delivery, but I also left the appointment with encouragement and support from all the doctors and staff who had become  more like family during the span of my pregnancy.

That evening after we checked into the hospital, I received a dose of Cervidil to soften my cervix in preparation for the induction early the next day. Overnight, I started having contractions, and by morning I was dilated to 2cm. By 8 am, I was started on pitocin through an IV to start the induction. I was told this process would probably take a day and expect to possibly push for about 2 hours once I was fully dilated since this was my first baby. Around noon I was dilated to 4cm and the doctor broke my water. Shortly after, things started progressing quickly and I received my epidural to ease the pain of the contractions. Less than 12 hours after starting the pitocin and after only 40 minutes of pushing, we welcomed our daughter, Maya. I truly couldn’t have asked for a better delivery or experience. In fact, right after Maya was born I looked at my husband and said I would gladly do it again! Everything had gone so smoothly and I know it’s because of all the preparation and help Revolution provided me!

With the amazing experience I had, we of course couldn’t wait to bring little Maya to get her first adjustment, so we brought her in at just 2 weeks old! Since then, Maya and myself have been coming to Revolution to continue our adjustments to feel our best selves. Receiving chiropractic care as I navigate my postpartum journey is the best gift that I could give myself after all the hard work my body has done creating and then delivering a baby. It has been so important for me to come to these appointments to keep me feeling like myself. Five months later, I am noticing better sleep, a wonderful breastfeeding experience and decreased back pain stemming from constantly arching my neck/back from breastfeeding. As for Maya, she is absolutely thriving! She has been sleeping through the night since she was 6 weeks old, breastfeeding like a champ, rarely has issues with her tummy, and is just about the happiest and most relaxed baby around. It has been amazing to have such a sense of community each time we walk in for our appointment and have everyone cheer us on and give us support during this new phase of life. So glad I found Revolution-I would be totally lost without them! We couldn’t ask for a better experience and look forward to continuing our care. Tuesdays have become our favorite day of the week- adjustment day!
